Yay, I am married! How do I change my name?
To change your name you need a copy of your official marriage certificate.
To apply for a certificate go to:
https://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/marriages-and-relationships/get-a-marriage-certificate
You can apply online. You will need to get your identification, as per the website, certified at a
relevant place or a Justice Service Centre, to send in.
You can apply in person, go to Ground floor, 595 Collins Street Melbourne
(near Southern Cross Station) but make sure your marriage is registered first.
It will be available, generally, in 4-6 weeks.
The cost of online and in person to change your name is $32.40 plus postage.
Once you’ve got your certificate, go to VICROADS first to change your name on your licence (free of charge), and it
will be easier at other places.
Passport: Change your name on your passport within 12 months, and it’s free of charge.
