COUPLE LOVE STORY
One of the wonderful things about weddings is we get to hear the love story of the couple getting
married here today, their thoughts, moments and feelings that remind us why they are getting
married.
When Brooke first met Rhys she thought it was crazy to meet someone who loved all the same
things as herself– they had so much in common with their hobbies and interests – road cycling,
mountain bikes, coffee, motorbikes, music and the great outdoors. After their first meeting they
would spend hours on the phone chatting away about life and bikes and everything they wanted to
do. By the 3rd date when Rhys took Brooke riding, she realised how much of a caring, cool and
outgoing guy he was.
Rhys remembers thinking to himself about Brooke… this chick is highly energised and motivated to
be something, enthusiastic about the same things, wasn’t scared to give things a go. Qualities, in
someone, to which he was very much attracted.
Brooke remembers their first date being quite awkward at a Thai restaurant in Elwood near Brooke’s
place: this is the dwelling where Rhys later moved in and kindly flooded their tiny Elwood apartment
after a slight washing machine malfunction! On the date, the chat was good but Rhys was so nervous
he only poured himself a glass of water, forgetting Brooke and didn’t even open a door. He called
Brooke on the way home, after he’d contained these nerves, and they chatted for the next 2 hours.
Rhys was the one who proposed to Brooke, it was incredibly cute and not so romantic says Brooke –
perfect for who they are. They had arrived home after celebrating Rhys’s birthday with his family.
Brooke was about to turn the lights off, when she turned around and Rhys was behind her and asked
her to try something on! It was his birthday, so she had to laugh that she got the surprise. Nice one
shating your birthday Rhys! But he said it was the birthday “present” he really wanted. How
adorable gushes Brooke.
Brooke loves that Rhys is energy plus, he doesn’t like wasting the day sleeping, he has an insane zest
for getting out there and either riding his bike(s) or doing something productive. It’s a running joke
that Brooke is also marrying her own ‘in house maintenance man’! No lightbulb would go out in their
house without Rhys getting in and getting it done the very next day.
Although Rhys has a rugged exterior, aka he looks rough as guts says Brooke, he is one of the most
caring and thoughtful people she knows. He would drive for days even months to know his family or
close friends are safe. He also used to remember the craziest little things like if she told him she liked
the salty/sweet popcorn, he would go and get groceries for dinner and there would be a pack of her
fave popcorn on the bench for her! Not only does he do this with materialistic things, but helps out if
he knows she’s had a rough day. There’d be a glass of wine waiting for her when she got home, or he
would’ve already arranged dinner. He’s certainly a keeper. Their values are the same and being on
the same wavelength is so integral to a successful relationship.
Rhys also thinks the world of Brooke. He loves how kind hearted she is, that she is adventurous and
she gives everything a go. Brooke will never say no to a fun time or doing anything outside the box,
something he greatly admires and appreciates. She supports Rhys in almost everything he wants to
do. Ultimately, she’s the best mum for my little man, Millar. I could not ask for anything more, he
says. She’s the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Their hopes for the future include continuing to grow and expand on their already awesome, fun and
exciting life and grow old together.
INTRODUCTION
Despite all of our differences, love is what we all share; it is our one universal truth. That no matter
who we are, where we’ve come from, what we believe, we know one thing: love is what we’re doing
right. That’s why we are standing here today.
We have all loved in our lifetimes, and in this moment, we’re reminded that the ability to love is the
very best part of our humanity.
All of us here today have our own love stories. Some are short, others long. Some are yet unwritten,
while others are just getting to the good part. There are chapters in all of our stories that are sad or
disappointing — and others that are exciting and full of adventure.
Brooke and Rhys have invited us here today, to share in their next chapter, to celebrate love and
above all, to have a great night!
READING
If not for you, I wonder where I would be right now
And what road in life I would have taken.
There would be so many directions I could have chosen,
But none of them would have been more fulfilling.
For me, fulfilment is knowing that I am sharing my life
With someone who is not only beautiful outside, but inside too,
Someone whose true character is revealed
Through kindness and understanding.
It gives me a very special feeling to know
That I’m sharing my life with someone who is not just wonderful
But also the greatest friend a person could ever have.

All parents reply: “We do”.
